Who are the "Boston Red Sox" Alex

Question:
This team won the 2013 World Series, yet may be out of the American League race by the All-Star break this season?

What the hell is up with the 2014 BoSox? Coming off their third World Series championship in the last nine years, expectations were high heading into the season. The exodus of Jacoby Ellsbury to the Evil Empire wasn't cool, but the Sox still have the firepower to make a run at another ring, right?

So, here were are on June 18th, and the Red sox are 5 games below .500 and 7.5 games out of first place. Why?

Baseball is a team sport. You win as a team and you lose as a team. I get it. But, in my opinion, there are two reasons in particular Red Sox fans are feeling the pain this season: starting pitchers Clay Buchholz and Jake Peavy.

Peavy, remarkably is the highest paid player on the team. Yet, he has underachieved since joining the Sox last season. He is 1-4 with a hefty ERA of 4.53. The guy just can't seem to find his mojo in Boston.

Buchholz, is a real head scratcher. The kid throws a no-hitter in his 3rd major league start, puts together a few solid seasons, and suddenly forgets how to pitch. It seems like he just doesn't care. I think he's soft. The Red Sox don't disagree. They sent him down to double-A for some work. When's the last time you heard of a team doing that?

If the Red Sox are going to rebound this season, Peavy must contribute. And, Buchholz? Well, they're just better leaving him down on the farm. It's a big hole. But, if the Red Sox can reach .500 by the break, they just might make a playoff run.
